Top Irish Clubs - by players supplied to clubs
|
Nothing gives more pride to your average GAA club member, beyond the own achievements of the club, than seeing club men representing their county. But which club has done this the most, and which club tends to be on the winning side.
Using GAAinfo's database of match results, clubs and county players, a table with the top club in Ireland in terms of matches played by clubmen has been devised. The South Armagh powerhouse of Crossmaglen lead the way with Ballinderry and the Gaeltacht just in behind.
Although the likes of Eire Og of Carlow and Belfast's St Galls are on the list, only 35% of Carlow games were won with an Eire Og player on the team. This is more representative of Carlow's county team than Eire Og's players, but using the box below you can select the table for each county
Note that the number of players per county is not all accurate as some names are duplicated, but the number of matches played is. The club lists for the footballers for Wicklow, Wexford, Leitrim, Meath, Westmeath, Kilkenny and London are as yet incomplete. The tables use all the GAA results from 2001 until May 2009.
Below is a list the clubs ordered by the percent of games won by their clubmen. You could say that having someone from these clubs on your county team helps win games. Sadly Eglish's main county player this decade was the peerless Cormac McAnallen. Ar Dheis De Go Raibh A Anam.(All clubs with less than 50 games are excluded).
The list of clubs reverse ordered by the percent of games won by their clubmen illustrates, as you would expect, that Waterford and Carlow footballers lose most often - regardless of which club they come from - winning roughly one in every six games.
